Carmen Palmer

Carmen Palmer first visited and fell in love with Vieques in 2001. After living and working on the island from 2001-2005, she spent several years on “the main island” of Puerto Rico in San Juan, and eventually found her way back to the U.S. mainland. Back in the U.S., Carmen earned an MFA in Professional Writing and a M.A.T in Teaching, Special Education. After 5 years working as a high school Special Ed. teacher in New Haven, Connecticut, she felt the pull back to Vieques, returning in August of 2019. Carmen has always worked in her community in some capacity, and as an educator and animal lover, is thrilled to be a part of a group like Juntos that empowers children to be their best and most compassionate selves, and ultimately, the torch bearers and teachers of our increasingly complex future.
